Current Resolutions

  1. Energy Share of Montana - Encourage co-ops' support for Energy Share in providing low-income energy and weatherization assistance; applaud Rural Montana magazine promotion of Energy Share contributions.
  2. State Taxation of Electric Cooperatives - Support equity of existing electric utility tax policy; oppose any tax proposals that unduly burden co-op members by shifting tax burden to rural areas; encourage active education concerning impacts of tax proposals on co-op members.
  3. NRECA Pension Funding - Urge development of legislative solutions to pension funding that would simplify the current system, thereby allowing greater flexibility in pension funding options.
  4. Industry Restructuring - Support restructuring and customer access to retail market only as it benefits all co-ops and their members; support state restructuring initiatives and urge federal restructuring be primarily limited to interstate and regional issues; urge customer education.  
  5. Regional Environmental Mandates - Oppose regional environmental mandates such as contained in Interior Columbia Basin Environmental Impact Statement and American Heritage Rivers Program because of precedence and adverse local economic impacts of such mandates.  
  6. Natural Resources and Rural America - Support responsible natural resource development as vital to future of rural America; urge Congress and state legislature to promote such development and limit federal or state agency usurpation of lawmakers' authority.  
  7. Global Climate Change - Urge United States' rejection of 1997 Kyoto agreement on global warming or similar proposals; support continued research to better understand mankind's impact on global climate change; oppose exemption of other nations.  
  8. Regional Haze - Urge federal Environmental Protection Agency to support regional haze concept, with increased emphasis on preliminary planning with states and tribes before expanding visibility protection program.
